Class Description:
Shaker craftsmen designed beautiful oval boxes to be easily constructed and to maximize storage space while using a minimum of materials. In spite of such utilitarian beginnings these boxes are prized for their beautiful and simple proportions and symmetry.
In this class Geoff Davis will lead you through the process of preparing and bending wood around solid wood molds to produce a No.3 (4 1/2” x 7”) and No. 4 (5 1/2” x 8 1/4”) Shaker box.
All materials, including native Indiana cherry, quartersawn white pine and authentic copper tacks will be provided.
Students will have the option of building a lidded box or a box with a fixed handle.
If time allows Geoff will demonstrate his methods and techniques for finishing Shaker boxes in an authentic manner.
