I’ve just returned from two days at Marsh Madness, a birding show at Goose Pond near Linton, Indiana. A group of artist friends including John Bundy, Bruce Neckar, Greg Adams and myself go each year to support the efforts to restore and maintain this fantastic wetland.
It’s been a long weekend and I’ve loads to report. Greg Adams and I were able to spend about three hours (not nearly enough time) on this huge marsh and series of shallow ponds. Most will have to wait.
For tonight I’m updating my list for the year (You can review my list here) and going to bed. More images and stories tomorrow.

Beautiful birds, beautiful sunset…love them! What cranes are they? White cranes?
Joel- Thanks for the visit. It was an amazing weekend and place for birding. the white cranes are Whooping Cranes — One of the rarest and most threatened birds on earth. I’ll write about them today or tomorrow.
Great meeting you!
I think the kids and Tim are hooked on birding now. Was quite the adventure. I posted one of Tim’s Whooping Crane pics on the Marsh Madness FB page.
What a great event! Tim enjoyed the eagles to the most. We got to see one stirring up the flocks at Beehunter (something), then it landed on a muskrat hut to eat a fish. Many thanks to all the volunteers. Couldn’t have seen all that without them, and their patience with my exuberant young gang was much appreciated!
Thanks again for your great blog. Have a great day.
Meeting you and your family was one of the highlights of the weekend! Thanks for coming and I’m so glad that you all enjoyed it. It is an amazing birding destination that few seem to know about. Please help get the word out.
I’ve not seen the eagles on the pond. How wonderful to be able to watch eagles hunt and eat!
I hope to see you again soon!
