Armed with a camera and my binocs I made my usual weekend morning birding rounds. It goes something like this (With occassional variations)- Morse Beach Park – I scope the the lake from north of the beach. Check the trees in and around the park and then check the dam and pool below it. Carrigan [...]

A Nice Morning Walk

Like I try to do every morning I can, I got up with the sun and headed into the field. No notable bird sightings or amazing experience to report, but I returned centered and serene. That’s why I do this. Images from around Morse Reservoir.

This morning the news was filled with hype about a certain groundhog and the condition of his shadow. This is always great fun, but doesn’t really seam to mean much. Last winter, about this time, I was getting calls and emails about another early sign of spring, the American robin. Folks that know birds (or [...]

Photographer and friend Ernie Mills accompanied me on my annual West Union (Park County), Indiana bald eagle trip. For particulars about where and when and what to expect visit my earlier post here. We left home at 5:30 and arrived at the West Union Covered Bridge at 7:30 as planned. Several other folks had gathered [...]

Morse Reservoir is 80 – 90% frozen and any visible waterfowl are way out there. I shot this group of 5-6 ducks several times and blew up the best shots. I think I’m seeing common goldeneyes. What’s your take?

My bird carvings are stylized forms of the birds that I see and experience. No one would mistake my birds for the real thing. Realism is the current trend in bird carving. I’m headed in the other direction. To carve my birds I reference my own sightings (sometimes fleeting), field guides and photos that I [...]

I’m still playing with my new lens. I’m finding its limitations and maximizing strengths. I continue to be pleased and excited. We went for a Sunday drive to lunch at the Hobnob in Nashville, Indiana and I managed to arrange for 50 Little Birds to be represented in a gallery there. Details coming shortly. I’ve [...]

I got back into SLR photography early last year and purchased a used Canon camera. I had once been a fairly serious photographer, but I couldn’t afford new equipment when the world went digital. I’ve had a serious of point and shoot digital cameras (The Olympus Tough being my favorite — a mighty fine camera) [...]

I love to spend time on the water! I grew up around boats sailing, paddling and motoring the backwaters of the Sheepscot River near Boothbay, Maine. Being around traditional boats has been in my blood for as long as I can remember. When my mother sold the house in Maine it cut me off from [...]
