I’ve been an elementary educator for over 25 years. I have been convinced, since my first day in a classroom, that our future hinges on teaching children to find their strength areas and providing opportunities for them to explore those areas in the ways that they choose. Gever Tulley gets this and has built a fantastic summer camp experience, Tinkering School, around these premises. I would love to see this taken a step forward. This model could be developed into an incredibly powerful school that would facilitate children’s growth into solid, confident and well informed adults.
Gever also explains specific, and often forbidden, activities that are essential to healthy child development. These are expanded in his book Fifty Dangerous Things (That You Should Let Your Child Do).
