Following my previous post, The Sawyer Island House, a commenter asked about The Nest today.
Our family sold The Nest in the late 1980s. My parents were divorced and the the property was liquidated in the settlement. It was purchased by Jasper White, the New England chef. He has since sold the property.
My last visit to the house was in the fall of 2010. I was accompanying photographer Ernie Mills as he shot Maine and the Adirondacks. I wrote about the day I revisited Sawyer Island.
I check in from time-to-time on the house. It’s disappeared from the advertisements for
summer rentals and the dock–that I rebuilt in the 1980s–has vanished from Google Earth.
Only one family, from our time there, remains. I’ve not checked in with them in awhile. Perhaps it’s time.
